- quick drying.
- good adhesion to metal surfaces.
- good weather resistance
- very good wear resistance.
Assortment
ERUGO anticorrosive alkyd primer.
Areas of use
It is used as a first layer, on metal surfaces, to protect them from corrosion and ensure a good adhesion between the metal and the finishing layer.
Technical characteristics
Appearance: homogeneous, viscous liquid, without mechanical impurities.
Color: grey, reddish brown
Film: matte.
Viscosity: 4000-5000cps (20rpm; s64)
Specific weight: 1.55_1.6 kg/l
Coverage: 12 -13 m²/l/layer.
Drying time (20°C): type a (surface): 3 – 4 h.
Type b (in depth): 24 h.
Flexibility: mandrel with diam 4mm.
Flash point: 38°C.
Mode of application
Do not apply on surfaces painted with emulsified paints, or on incompletely dried supports.
Product preparation for application
Before opening the container, it is cleaned of impurities, to avoid contamination of the product.
The product is conditioned at 15 – 30°C.
Any skins formed on the surface are removed and the content is homogenized in order to perfectly redisperse any sediment.
Viscosity adjustment is done with diluent as follows:
Process
Diluent type
Amount of diluent %
Brush, roller
STAR SOLV (Type 509)
6 – 8
Air spraying
STAR SOLV (Type 509)

Support preparation and application:
Preparation of unprimed/unpainted metal surfaces
Large deposits of grease, oil or dirt must be removed by a proven cleaning method, taking care that the deposit is removed and not spread over the surface.
Fats and oils are removed using solvents (white spirit, toluene), then cleaned with detergents or emulsified washing agents. The operation will be completed by rinsing with potable water and drying.
Degreasing by manual washing with solvents is not recommended because it leads to spreading a thin film of fat on the surface, a film that can affect the coating. Special attention will be paid to the edges and corners, the degreased surfaces must not be touched with the hand, as the perspiration contains salts.
Preparation of previously primed or painted metal surfaces
If the surface has been primed or painted before, completely remove the inappropriate layer of paint or primer and apply the steps and procedures indicated for unprimed surfaces.
Application conditions
Ambient temperature: 15 – 30°C
Relative humidity of the environment: max 75%
Support temperature: 15 – 30°C
Product temperature: 15 – 30°C
Do not apply to wet surfaces.
The rooms where the priming operation is performed will be free of dust, moisture, strong currents, and the surface to be primed will be properly lit.
Application details
The application can be done with a brush, roller or by spraying with air. The product can be diluted with STAR SOLV (Type 509), under manual or mechanical agitation, in order to obtain the viscosity recommended for each type of application.
Apply double layers on welds, corners and sharp edges.
When spraying, apply a wet layer in uniform, parallel passes. It overlaps
each pass ½ to avoid empty areas.
Uncovered, damaged areas or random pores are retouched with a brush.
Number of layers
It is recommended to apply two layers. Depending on the operating conditions or the color of the substrate, the number of layers may increase.
It is not recommended to apply thick layers, but several thin layers.
Recommended dry film/layer thickness
40 – 50 microns.
The application of the second layer is done at least 16 hours (at 23 ± 2°C) after the application of the first.
The drying time depends on the temperature and humidity (environment, support) and the thickness of the film.
The drying time is prolonged by the decrease in temperature and the increase in the thickness of the film. Poor room ventilation and excessive humidity also increase the drying time.
Maintenance of painting equipment
The equipment will be cleaned with washing solvents (white spirit or STAR
SOLV (Type 509) immediately after use. The product left in the equipment may cause it to block.
In the case of spray application, if the break is longer than 10 minutes,
the nozzle must be cleaned to avoid spraying defects.
Theoretical specific consumption
between 1-14m2/l/layer and varies depending on the absorption degree of the surface, color and method of application.
